Me and My Little Gardener
This is my debut post to the "Me and My Monday" group.
This is me and my junior gardener, aka my son Joey. I wish I could say that he's helping me garden out of the sheer joy of getting into the dirt and beautifying our yard - or in this case because of the promise of delicious dishes later this summer - but not really. He's doing it to earn money to buy his next Webkinz.
(I could've also titled this post "Me and My New Haircolor" but I didn't think that would be that interesting, especially given that it's not drastic enough for anyone who doesn't see me every day to notice.)
Even though Joey pretended to be all about the money, I think he secretly enjoyed labeling my herb pots.
I painted the bottom parts of each pot with chalkboard paint. Fun, huh? It's hard to see, but in addition to writing the name of each herb, he also drew a picture of each. Being a realist, he looked at the picture on the front of each seed packet so that his drawings would look like the actual plant. He's so my kid.

I think it's fun to have kids help me in the garden. This year I gave Nathan a little patch of his own and he's growing radishes. Not because he likes them but because they only take a month until their done and then he can be done, too.
Cool about the bench! I restained mine a couple of years ago but forgot to do the drawers. D'oh! I was too lazy to drag the stuff all out again.
I like the idea of a short turnaround time in the junior garden.
Joey and Kevin would so get along.
joey's so cute looking at the packages to make sure his pictures matched the real pictures. hehehe.
what? 3D chalk??? uhm... okay. that's the coolest thing i've heard since i heard of chalkboard paint. hehe :P
I can't take credit, unfortunately - I read about it in a Lowe's magazine. And like a good little consumre, I went right out and got the stuff at Lowe's! LOL
Did you make it to Chicago?
What a cool project to do together...even if he thinks he's just doing it for the money! :)
When my kids were toddlers, I used the chalkboard paint to make a chalkboard in their room. It really is cool stuff.
I love it! I think its great that you can coerce, I mean, motivate Joey into participating. Growing a garden like that is a great experiment for kids.
This is so neat! What a cool idea with the chalk.
And I love your hair - it looks great!
