What I’m annoyed by today:
· Cranky coworkers
· Anemia – the exhaustion, headache, and coldness. I’m going to take iron for a few days; eventually I should feel better.
· My messy desk
· Computer trouble that keeps me from doing my job and drives me to blog instead.
· That the only color printer on this floor is under my desk and everyone and their brother knows about it and uses it, then expects me to drop what I’m doing and get their crap off of it.
What I like today: · The arrival of Season 3 of The Muppet Show in the mail yesterday! · That my kids still want to watch the Muppets with their parents. J · The bathroom cabinets we ordered have arrived at Home Depot. We’re going to go get them tomorrow after work. · Pepsi Points – we’ve already gotten Bailey her own mp3 player and we’re close to getting one for Joey. My coworkers are helping me amass bottle caps. · Interesting lab experiences – I spent 3 hours in the coag lab today and diagnosed DIC, Hemophilia A, and the effects of anticoagulants. I like coag. · A local grocery store that gives out gas coupons – the good kind that actually make a difference in your total. We get 1 cent off per gallon for every $10 spent. On a $100 grocery bill (or $250 grocery bill but who’s counting), that can add up! · Homemade beef jerky. Mmmmmm………..and for all practical purposes, sugar free too. Try to find that in the store. · Diet Pepsi. Lots of it. · Last but not least, my husband of 13 years – as of today! Happy anniversary to us!
Today I'm liking:
- Sunshine and 62 degrees. Finally!
- Fitting into jeans that used to be indecently tight.
- Feeling better than I did last Tuesday! :)
- My new red patent shoes. I've wanted a pair for a long time. They're just cheapies for fun, and fun is what they are. I wore them to work today and got several compliments.
- Speaking of work, I love lab teaching exercises that work the way they're supposed to.
- Green and red peppers. They're so pretty and make a good afternoon snack.
- My new haircut.
- Being able to grocery (& other) shop with Brian while the kids are at Awana. It's a pathetic excuse for date night but we'll take what we can get! Besides, it beats the heck out of doing the shopping with the kids.
- This cool razor I got Brian for shaving his head. He hasn't used it yet but I can't wait for him to try it!
Today I'm not liking:
- Being obsessed with my weight.
- Not losing pounds this week. I think I know the reason why I'm not losing but I'm not sure how to solve it in a healthy way.
- Having my coag final looming over my head. I need to force myself to buckle down & study.
- Nothing else, really. Today was a good day!
Things I'm hating today:
- When things don't go as planned.
- When things don't go well because I planned badly.
- Being a girl.
- The fact that it's April and its supposed to snow tonight.
- That my weight is up - hopefully only temporarily.
- Not being able to communicate with people.
- A scanner that doesn't work, when it worked fine yesterday!. >:-(
Things I like today:
- Nuts with lots of salt.
- That I can have really dark chocolate on SBD.....I found 70% cacao with toasted coconut today!
- That the pilot light in my gas fireplace still works.
- My navy fleece jacket...I wear the thing everywhere. It's warm & comfy.
- That I figured out how to get the musty smell out of my towels (apparently this is a well-documented hazard of having a front-loader)
So today the bad outweighs the good. It's been a cruddy day.
Five o'clock AM would be considered sleeping in if today were Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. So I'm not tired, and they say it's good to get up at a regular time every day. It just seems wrong to be up this early on a weekend if you don't have to be.
My cat does this thing where she makes noise in the morning to wake us up. First she hops up on the garbage can/shredder and paws on the miniblinds and makes a horrible noise (the shredder is next to the window because the window is next to the outlet). Then when I get after her for that, she stops for a minute then hops up on the trunk against the wall opposite the foot of the bed and rustles around in the silk plant on a stand next to it. Or if she finds papers on the floor she'll rustle those around. After we chase her away from those, she sometimes will leave the room, cross the landing, and paw at Bailey's door. The last thing we want is one of the kids woken up at 4:00 (6 is early enough), so at that point one of us will get up, usually Brian if it's Saturday, usually me if it's any other day.
My alarm during the week goes off at 4:00, so usually as all this transpires I've already hit the snooze button at least once, so it's just an impetus to get me out of bed. But she's been starting this earlier and earlier lately, so we're being awakened as early as 3. There are few things I hate as much as waking up - or being woken up - an hour or less before my alarm is supposed to go off. So this naughty cat has really been on my nerves lately. She was kind enough to wait until 4 to start this morning but was absolutely relentless. We tried shutting her out of the room but couldn't ignore the sound of her pawing at the door. I'm so conditioned to the sounds of miniblinds or plants or doors that once I'm awake I hear them all, and eventually her relentlessness just made me too mad to go back to sleep. Normally she eats her breakfast at 5, but I'm holding off feeding her so that she doesn't perceive it as a reward for being so annoying as to get me downstairs. This is a dealing-with-toddlers tactic; it ought to work on a cat too, don't you think?
Jen apparently also had trouble sleeping too, and she did something that reminded me of something I need to do too - remake my grocery list. I had a great one but it's gone with the demise of my old computer. So in the famous words of Uncle Rico, I might as well do something while I'm doing nothing.
OK, it's now 6 am, I have a job to do, I should probably feed the cat (it's been long enough and she's been amazingly patient), and my morning news show is starting. I'm also going to start some coffee, so maybe between that and the intellectual stimulation my next post will be a little more interesting.
Oh yeah, totally off-topic: We watched "Pride & Prejudice" last night. FANTASTIC movie. I loved it! I haven't read the book (I know, I know!) so the story was new to me and I just loved it. And I must admit that Mr. Darcy being so nice to look at didn't hurt matters any. :)
